Drew Nesbitt of Shanty Bay Golf Club near Barrie has earned himself a position in the field at the RBC Canadian Open.
He fired a five-under par 66 to tie for first in Monday's final qualifier.
The top four finishers qualified for the Canadian Open, which gets under way this Thursday at Glen Abbey Golf Club in Oakville.
Sharing first place with Nesbitt was Riley Wheeldon of Comox, British Columbia.
After a playoff, the two others receiving spots were U.S. golfers Lee McCoy and Jhared Hack.
Nesbitt, who will make his PGA TOUR debut at the 2017 RBC Canadian Open, is thankful Canada’s National Championship is truly an open event.
“That’s the nature of the game that they have these open qualifying events. It allows amateurs and pros that aren’t full status and mini tour players like myself, to get to the next level,” Nesbitt states in a Golf Canada media release. “It will be a good experience to test my game against the best players in the world.”
Nesbitt has been playing on the Great Lakes Tour where he posted a win last month at Settlers' Ghost.
The qualifier was held at Heron Point Golf Links near Hamilton, Ont.
